Nambu Blog: To FriendFeed and Facebook

  • KoS · 6 months ago
I've noticed this bug with Twitter on Nambu (I don't use any other than Twitter). I don't know if it was triggered by a reply or a retweet, but it's affecting every update I'm getting, including updates on my other accounts.

    Here's a picture of the error. http://i41.tinypic.com/2mfb4wp.png
  • emiliehw · 6 months ago
I'm seeing the same problem as KoS — one of my replies is showing up underneath every incoming tweet. Other than that, loving the new version.
  • Arthur Alston · 6 months ago
Just confirming that I also have this error.
  • Aad 't Hart · 6 months ago
I can also confirm the same bug... many tweets are messed up..
  • kingkool68 · 6 months ago
I've been having the same bug with Nambu. Every incoming tweet has 3 really old and irrelevant replies nested beneath it.
  • Dale · 6 months ago
I have this bug too - every tweet has the same reply nested underneath it.
  • David D. Levine · 6 months ago
I'm having the same issue in both 1.1.12 and 1.2.0. Also, the "remember window position by view" preference checkbox is ignored (it's always on), and sometimes when I switch views the compose box appears.
  • Thomas · 6 months ago
    I have the same issue
  • David D. Levine · 6 months ago
This bug can be worked around by turning off "Thread message replies."
  • kari · 6 months ago
happened to me too, starting from yesterday.
  • kari · 6 months ago
also it didn't affect all the tweets, only the tweets till "19h" ago...
    i'm using MAC 10.5.7
    hope it helps
  • kmsqrd · 6 months ago
The work around works, but I like the utility of threaded replies.
  • janvd · 6 months ago
Same problem here, turned "Thread message replies" off to work around this.
Also did a delete from the database & restarted Nambu just to be sure, but that didn't resolve it either...
  • Rafael Dohms · 6 months ago
This bug is due to the twitpocalypse.com ... can't believe nambu did not have a fix out the door already... even for beta software.. this is kinda lame
  • slatrat · 6 months ago
    Hey there,

I'm a huge Nambu fan - I've been evangelizing it for the past few months.

Unfortunately, 1.2 does not seem to work on my Macbook Air. It starts up ok and I get an initial pane display - of my direct messages. But then it spins off in to some sort of infinite loop, sucks up all the processor power (not difficult to do on an air) and never comes back. I have to kill the app.

I've reinstalled, I've deleted the .plist, I've removed the database, etc. But no luck at all. I think I'm going to do my first ever reinstall from my Time Machine backup and go back to 1.1.

The Airs are tricky - for example I can't update to 10.5.7 because of a kernel/fan issue. So, I don't blame you guys.

    Thanks,
    Steph
  • Eric Woodward · 6 months ago
I also have a Macbook Air and it runs fine. The issue is not the Air, but that you have hit a problem with our initialization code that only affects a small % of users. We are working on reoslving it.
  • BillSaysThis · 6 months ago
I reported this via email yesterday morning at the request of whoever is doing your Twitter account and have not received so much as an automated acknowledgment. I realize you’re a small company but if you have time to reply to posts here it would be nice to know you got my email.
  • Kaolin Fire · 6 months ago
Really looking forward to facebook integration. At the very least just to read status updates, but more would be cool.

nit: "except to see" -> "expect to see" ;)
  • Eric Woodward · 6 months ago
    Thanks. Fixed it.
  • Aaron Sher · 6 months ago
The 1.2 release seems to have some fairly serious bugs. For example, "Hide Seen" doesn't do anything. It's also done some weird shifting around of messages that didn't seem to be in response to anything that I did, but I can't characterize that one any more yet.
  • Eric · 6 months ago
The jump has to do with the last tweet you highlight in your stream. I think, during an twitter update the stream jumps back to that last highlighted tweet.
  • shedali · 6 months ago
looking forward to seeing it grow :)
  • Vin Thomas · 6 months ago
I am also looking forward to a facebook integration. I love the way Seesmic Desktop accomplishes this. It would be nice to have more than just status updates, but even SOMETHING would be nice.

    Sexy app. Love your gear!
  • oliverw · 6 months ago
well done! Look forward to the future
  • joelstephan · 6 months ago
Can't wait for the FriendFeed integration. Keep up the good work!
  • Stephen P Conroy · 6 months ago
Great work! Thank you for all your hard word.
  • mardod · 6 months ago
Appreciate the update. Keep up the good work.
  • Jon Buscall · 6 months ago
I'm really happy with Nambu. Have been using it for over a month and I love it. It feels more Mac than any other client on the market! Good work chaps.
  • shevy · 6 months ago
You guys rock. Simple as that!

    Cheers,

    @shevy
  • Tony Curwen · 6 months ago
Very cool application - I can already tell I'll have it running ALL the time.
  • Brade · 6 months ago
Love the Nambu update. Seems to be significantly faster.
Main problem I've found is clicking on "People" lists nobody in my followers or following. Same thing when clicking on another person--their followers/following don't show up...
  • Eric Woodward · 6 months ago
We are reworking people from top to bottom. Not a great implementation currently, definitely a work in progress. Stay tuned there.
  • David D. Levine · 6 months ago
Doing a Reload makes them appear, but then they're gone again next time you visit the People list.
  • Patrick Eden · 6 months ago
Just downloaded the new version, it is not connecting to anything even though tweetdeck is cooking with gas #fail
  • Alex Reynish · 6 months ago
    GROWL

the app, i wasn't growling at you
  • Bart · 6 months ago
If it's early development, why call it 1.2? It's confusing. Usually people do 0.1, 0.2, 0.3... and they call it 1.0 when they have something they're happy to not call beta or development...
  • Eric Woodward · 6 months ago
Yeah I agree. We lost control of the versioning a little bit, and wanted to avoid the whole thing altogether, but it did not work out that way. :(
  • Patrice-Guy Martin · 6 months ago
I'm quite happy with where this is going! Installed the latest of Nambu a few hours ago and liking it.

Being a Ping user, I noticed that sending to Ping from nambu defaults to the microblog group, not the status group. I've tried to overide this with the standard Ping prefix (@ to specify a service or # to a custom group) and it doesn't seem to work. Feature or bug? I would suggest a to be able to specify to what group to send the update to (I crosspost to TW, FB, Plurk, LinkedIn, etc. using Ping), maybe in the pref panel of Ping.

But I have to say: the killer feature of Nambu for me are the groups. We need some drag and drop functionnality for this and, if possible, a cross services groups...!

In my list of wishes: sync with iPhone, sync groups/search between multiples Macs, etc. !!!

    Keep on the good work!
  • Eric Woodward · 6 months ago
I will forward the comments about Ping.fm, and we will see what we can do there. As for the other stuff: groups management, sync and backup ... you are reading our minds. :)
  • kurisub · 6 months ago
Now that it's (somewhat) working, I'm loving the 1.2 update! Only problem is it completely freezes if I try to change from outline to combined views!
  • paulidin · 6 months ago
I just upgraded to 1.2. My single twitter account is not updating after 15 minutes while set to dynamic updates. 5 minute updates seems to work. From the "sidebar view", I can click on the reload button, but the "Combined view" is missing the reload functionality. This obviously makes this heretofore fantastic program almost unusable.

I like the graphical updates and the speed of loading.

I still cannot get nambu to connect to tr.im nor pic.im with my username and password even though I can access those sites directly from a web browser with the same credentials with no problem.

I've noted both these issues in the feedback blog, also. Will these issues be addressed?

And on an unrelated note, I've tried the Email Upload functionality of pic.im without success numerous times. Will that get fixed?

Please don't mistake, I adore nambu and as soon as you're out of beta and the bugs are fixed, I'll be happy to send in monies for any premium features or shareware fee. Thank you!
  • paulidin · 6 months ago
I tried a couple restarts and now the dynamic updating does seem to work. The bug may just be intermittent or on first tries. The tr.im and pic.im disconnect is still a problem for me.
  • Eric Woodward · 6 months ago
Cool, thanks. Please email me directly ejw@nambu.com about the pic.im email upload, with your account username. I will poke that personally and see if we fix the problem.
  • paulidin · 6 months ago
As Cmdr Q. Fortesque noted, I also experienced this: The dropdown when you type an @ doesn't behave properly - you can't escape out of it, and sometimes if you try to edit the name it inserts the name again in the middle (resulting in things like @usernusernameame)

In addition, I find that in the combined view sometimes a tweet will not display in its entirety until I resize the window by making it horizontally thinner/wider. I can then usually adjust the window until I do see all the words.
  • paulidin · 6 months ago
I also miss the control-click pop up menus in tweets as the little gear is... too little for me to hit easily on my small screen.
  • hughbs · 6 months ago
A little shaky - and DMs aren't being pulled in. But sticking with you. Keep it up guys (gals?)!
  • Scott · 6 months ago
I updated 7 hours ago and have not received a single tweet all day (compared to hundreds per day usually, thanks to news services). Clearly there is some issue going on.
  • Vulpinemac · 6 months ago
Could care less about the FaceBook, FriendFeed, Yahoo and OneRiot connections. At best, they're annoying; in actuality, they're worthless.

Add to this the fact that I used to be able to right-click for re-tweet, reply, direct, etc..., now I have to click on the blasted gear icon? Guys, this is a huge step BACKWARDS! You've made Nambu worse, not better! Much as I hate some of the other apps I've used, I'm sorely tempted to go back to them just to have something easier to use!

Really! I want to go back to 1.0!
  • Vulpinemac · 6 months ago
How do I go back to the older version?
  • Eric Woodward · 6 months ago
As much as want every person on OS X to love and use Nambu, obviously that is not possible. If Facebook and other features beyond Twitter, Twitter, Twitter is not what you want, then our vision for integration of social messaging is not for you. That is totally fine.
  • aaronbryson · 6 months ago
Great work, really like the improvements in 1.2 . Looking forward to the facebook & friendfeed inegration.
  • Eric Woodward · 6 months ago
Thanks. Good to hear that, in addition to the criticisms which we want too, to make Nambu great for many many people.
  • JEBworks · 6 months ago
Congratulations on a great app. update 1.2 seems to be much faster and more stable. Like what I see so far.
There are some issues like the scrolling. It seems to start in some random position just below the unread items. One annoyance I noticed is that all my direct messages are gone.
  • Eric Woodward · 6 months ago
    We are addressing those issues.
  • aaronbryson · 6 months ago
One thing I have had trouble with is my dm's the column is blank (no dm's) is this a known issue?
  • Cmdr. Q. Fortescue · 6 months ago
I like the 1.2 update - the speed is *much* nicer. There are a few bugs I've noticed:

    * The dropdown when you type an @ doesn't behave properly - you can't escape out of it, and sometimes if you try to edit the name it inserts the name again in the middle (resulting in things like @usernusernameame).
    * Direct panel is blank.
    * Favourites panel is blank.
    * People panel is blank, on both followers and following.
    * Searches don't remember their seen/unseen state across quit/restart (they always reset to 30 unseen).
    * URL shortening sometimes cuts URLs short - I haven't managed to isolate this one yet, but I think it's on ; chars in the URL.

That's all for the moment :)
  • Cmdr. Q. Fortescue · 6 months ago
    Sorry, found another.

In Home, I can right-click to do an action (reply, retweet etc). But in searches, I can't right-click, I have to click on the gear icon in the corner.

Is there somewhere I should be reporting these that isn't just comments on a blog?
  • kostik · 6 months ago
"We want to make Nambu the best most complete OS X software for social messaging"

So, PLEASE, stop developing the iPhone version! There're so many other great iPhone twitter clients out there. If you want to be good in one thing - concentrate yourself on the OSX version. Push all resources into it. Be the best. There're still so much to do.
  • Eric Woodward · 6 months ago
We are continuing with our iPhone development. I agree there are lots of great Twitter applications for the iPhone, but we will have ours there as well.
  • jL · 6 months ago
Awesome. Please fix undo (or at least start by acknowledging the issue), as per following thread:

    http://blog.nambu.com/post/121210540/wednesday-...
  • Eric Woodward · 6 months ago
I did that earlier today. We ack it and will address it.
  • tracyshaun · 6 months ago
Hey - I love Nambu, but this recent update has kinda messed things up.

    * I can't select text out of a tweet... to copy & paste
    * URLs beginning with http:// are not being linked... specifically, any bit.ly urls come through as plain text instead of a link (hence the need to copy & paste above)

I really want to keep using Nambu, but these are deal killers.
  • tracyshaun · 6 months ago
Oh, and the unread counts for friend groups don't update anymore when I read/click on tweets in the "Home" feed :-(
  • Eric Woodward · 6 months ago
Yes, we are aware of these issues. Thanks for reporting them.
  • Daniel Nowak · 6 months ago
I love your product and the 1.2 update is great. I have to say I dislike the changes in scrolling in Nambu. If I don't mark tweets are read then it always scrolls down to the last tweet that I did mark as read.

I think many of us read our tweets via growl notifications and only click over to Nambu when there is something we need to interact with. Sometimes that is 200 messages ago. The scrolling is annoying. Actually that is the exact reason I stopped using twitterrific.
  • Eric Woodward · 6 months ago
We will be updating preferences here, to account for everyone's specific tastes. We lose here either way without that. Many many many users complained that they hated the list moving away from what they were reading when new tweets came in. We changed it for them, but a preference is required for all.
  • Andy · 6 months ago
Does anyone else's Nambu App lock-up when you click the shorten URL button? I get that every time on my MBP. Also it seems like even after clicking refresh that not all of my followers/following people shows up under people. I scanned, are these known issues?
  • dhsundwall · 6 months ago
Same here plus crashy and it's now posting replies to tweets that have nothing to do w/ each other. The update was great at first but obvious has some bugs.
  • Andy · 6 months ago
Yep. I think Nambu is the best concept for a Twitter App by far, and I will stick it out for sure. It's just to bad we can't roll back for a few weeks till it's all worked out.

For the record, I don't mean this negatively in any way to the awesome people behind the program. Beta is beta.
  • Ashwin · 6 months ago
Its the same with me too - replies wrongly threaded. Crashes randomly - often when you select to delete text.
  • Chris · 6 months ago
As far as I can tell, 1.2 is broken in multiple ways. I'm going back to the old version.
  • Dave · 6 months ago
Every time I try to go into the multi column view the program crashes.
I really love Nambu but want to use it with all the columns showing.
    Any ideas??
  • Karen · 6 months ago
same bug for me too. Plus the slide control for each section is not right.
  • Tim E. Harper · 6 months ago
The 1.2 release is driving us crazy. It doesn't crash as often, but more than makes up for it by screwing up replies & timelines. A real step backwards
  • Eric Woodward · 6 months ago
I assume you hit the thread replies problem. You need to update to 1.2.1.
